Tournament - General Rules

– Single-elimination format (there will however be a consolation game for teams losing in the first round, in which the team can gain overall Champions Cup points for their school)

– The coach should play all rostered players, however there is no minimum play rule.

– This is a one-day tournament with all games being played on the last Friday of January.

– Teams will play multiple games, with games possibly starting as early as 4:30 pm.

– All decisions of the Tournament Director are final and not subject to any appeal.

Eligibility

– Teams may be formed from any public or private school within the boundaries of the city of Irvine.

– There is both a boys and girls team at each division level (participation permitting). If there is not enough players for separate teams a co-ed team will be formed and play in the boys division.

– Teams are be formed by the following divisions:

  • 2nd-4th Grade
  • 5th-6th Grade
  • 7th-8th Grade

– Schools are permitted one boys team and one girls team per division.

– Team rosters are determined by the school and coach.

– All players must participate on the team of the Irvine Unified or Tustin Unified School District school that they attend.

– Any player who resides in Irvine, but does not attend and Irvine elementary or middle school, can participate for the school within whose IUSD/TUSD-identified boundary he/she resides. As to whether the player earns a spot on that school’s team is at the discretion of the coach and administration of that school.

Duration of Matches

– Two 20 minute halves with a 5 minute half-time

– Championship games will be 48 minutes long

– Free substitution (at any time, play to play, series to series, etc.)

– If game is tied there will be an overtime period to decide a winner (see overtime rules in rule sheet)

– 6 players per side

Scheduling / Brackets

– Championship rounds are played on the last Friday of January (minimum of two games, with the potential of three).

– Games start as early as 4:30 PM, and as late as 8:15 PM (we cannot accommodate special requests for game times, thanks for understanding).

– Bracketing will be done by drawing school names out of a hat, by the Tournament of Champions staff.

– If there is an odd number of teams, there will be a play-in game that will be randomly determined by drawing out of a hat.

Ball Size

– 2nd-4th Grade: Pee-wee size

– 5th-8th Grade: Junior size

– Includes: Jersey and a minimum of 2 games
